Is Analysis Paralysis Standing Between You and Your Productivity?
Analysis paralysis, decision paralysis — whatever you want to call it — will stop us from getting anything done if we let it. Many people struggle when it comes to making decisions, thinking it’s imperative to carefully weigh out their options before deciding. While it’s important to plan and analyze, it can very easily turn into what’s known as analysis paralysis. Analysis paralysis is what happens when we allow ourselves to keep musing over whether or not to take a particular course of action and never end up doing anything about it, or make the decision far too late.
It can occur with big life events such as weighing out whether or not to accept a job offer, or even relatively small things such as what to have for dinner.
While, yes, it’s worth thinking about these things, overthinking them could cause us to miss a deadline for the job offer, or end up going to bed hungry because no option felt like the right one.
What is Overthinking?
If you’re not sure whether or not you’re overthinking something, gauge your mood. If you feel cool, calm, and collected, you’re likely thinking logically and reasonably; on the other hand, if you find yourself starting to feel anxious or unsettled, there’s a high chance that you’re overthinking.
