Musings on Life

I’m always the last to finish my food.

I can sip on drinks for hours on end.

I linger in hugs just a hair too long.

I will stutter on my words just to keep a conversation going.

I’ll ask questions that require long-form answers.

And I’ll give you all of the background information that you never asked for.

Secretly, or maybe not so secretly, I hang on every moment that I find pleasurable, as I know when the moment is gone, you don’t get it back; even when you think you’re stuck in your little routine, going through the motions without much else going for you, there are often little things you look back on in the future and miss.

Wherever you are now, you will miss certain places, certain people, and certain routines that you may not appreciate now.

Yet, you will never be able to recreate them. This is a reminder to be present, to take a look around you and appreciate where you are — whether this step in your life ends up equating to the good old days, your humble beginnings, or merely a stepping stone.

This is a reminder to look up from the screen sometimes and appreciate what you have and all that you get to do today. You’re so lucky in a lot of ways.
